the monument and the opera

The monument of Alexander Stamboliyski, leader of the Bulgarian Agrarian National Union in the period 1918-23, prime minister 1920 - 23. During this years Architect Parashkevanov made the project for the unions house. But it could be built in 1949-53 as a great complex housing the National opera too.

the Boyana Church

A nice little church in Boyana - in the south of Sofia, at the foot of Vitosha mountain. It is famous with Renaissance spirit frescoes from the 13th century. http://www.boyanachurch.org/indexen.htm

the ghost house

The "Jablanski" house - build 1907, architect Gruenanger. Mr. Jablanski was major of Sofia in the end of 19th century, 1912-13 minister in the kings government.
The building was chinese embassy during the socialist times and after the restitution from 1991 has several owners. But you see without the will to ceep it in a good condition. It is a cultural heritage and can't be demolished, but location is excellent, plot is very expensive. And the public is suspicious that somebody has a great interest of its self-ruination.

Epiphany

Epiphany is one of the greatest Christian feasts. The day marks the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River by St. John the Baptist.
Today the Bulgarian Orthodox church consecrates troops and their flags. Traditionally, on this day a cross is consecrated and thrown into a river or artificial lake. The one who manages to take the cross out of the water will have a healthy and successful year. http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=89094

my favorite from 2007

somehow I missed the theme day - but anyway this is one of my favorites 2007.
It was a strong day for me - starting for a buisness trip very early in the morning, and after a hard, exhausting discussions, and 3 flys behind - waiting for the last fly coming home.
